BOSTON, Mass. — U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton issued the following statement after U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) voted against passage of the Stop Insider Trading Act:

"There are two reasons Ed Markey voted against this bill: It didn't ban President Trump from owning stocks, and it required voter ID. Both are poor excuses. Nothing prevents future bills from banning the president and family members from owning stocks, a measure I support too. And the voter ID rider is a common-sense requirement implemented by some of the most progressive countries in the world. Ed Markey's far-left base would crucify him for voting in favor of something so inside the mainstream of American opinion," said Deaton.
