Deaton Proposes Innovation Dividend Trust to Give Taxpayers ROI on Federal Research Spending

BOSTON, MA – U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton today called for a new approach to federal spending and waste, urging Congress to tie the upcoming Continuing Resolution deadline to real taxpayer return on investment through his Innovation Dividend Trust proposal.

“Washington is once again preparing another short-term Continuing Resolution while Massachusetts families continue to fund billions in federal research with little to show for it,” said Deaton, a Marine veteran and former federal prosecutor. “Taxpayers have financed groundbreaking innovations through NIH, NSF, and DoD that have generated enormous profits for universities, corporations, and endowments. It’s time American citizens receive their fair share.”

Deaton’s Innovation Dividend Trust would function like Alaska’s Permanent Fund but for the innovation economy. The plan would:

Create a federal trust that returns a small portion of economic gains from taxpayer-funded research in AI, biotechnology, clean technology, and other fields back to everyday Americans as annual dividends.

Include progressive guardrails such as a base amount for all workers, income caps for high earners, and household-based distribution.

Ensure taxpayers are treated as venture capitalists who deserve ROI on the breakthroughs they helped finance at institutions like Harvard, MIT, and companies such as Raytheon.

“Instead of more endless spending and kick-the-can Continuing Resolutions, we should deliver real results for the people who pay the bills,” Deaton added. “This is taxpayer-funded innovation, and the dividends should flow back to the taxpayers.”

Deaton’s proposal is part of his broader platform on government spending and fiscal responsibility. It stands in contrast to 50-year incumbent Senator Ed Markey’s record of unchecked federal spending.

BOSTON, MA – U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton today unveiled a comprehensive plan to Break the Insurance Stranglehold and deliver real savings to Massachusetts patients by building on bipartisan Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) reforms signed into law in February 2026.

“Massachusetts families are being crushed by skyrocketing healthcare costs driven by powerful middlemen,” said Deaton, a cancer survivorwith a unique perspective on health care.

He continued, “The Big Three PBMs control over 80 percent of the prescription drug market. My plan goes further than the recent bipartisan reforms to force real savings directly to patients instead of letting insurance middlemen continue to profit at their expense.”

Deaton’s plan includes the following key reforms:

Using antitrust law to dismantle vertical integration, breaking up the corporate control where PBMs, insurers, and pharmacies operate under the same umbrella.

Banning secret rebates and kickbacks so that 100 percent of savings go directly to patients at the pharmacy counter.

Ending spread pricing that allows PBMs to pocket the difference between what they charge insurers and pay pharmacies.

Establishing a national telehealth license compact with federal reciprocity, allowing doctors licensed in one state to treat patients across the country.

Creating a market-based patient fallback option that is completely opt-in, delivered through private carriers or nonprofits, and funded entirely by PBM reform savings with no new taxes or government takeover.

“Patients should choose their doctor, not insurance bureaucrats,” Deaton added. “This plan expands access, increases competition, and puts families first.”

Deaton’s proposal is part of his broader “Healthcare Affordability” platform and directly contrasts with 50-year incumbent Senator Ed Markey.

BOSTON – John Deaton, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate challenging longtime incumbent Ed Markey, has committed to sponsoring legislation if elected that would amend the U.S. Constitution to impose term limits on all members of Congress: three (3) two-year terms in the House and two (2) six-year terms in the Senate. Deaton signed his personal pledge with U.S. Term Limits, committing to serve no more than two terms himself.

In the spirit of Massachusetts, I’m proud to lead the fight for real reform through bold term limits and get Congress working for the American people again, not the other way around.”

Deaton Unveils ‘Skills First Act’ to Deliver Debt-Free Trades to Massachusetts’ Non-College Majority

BOSTON, MA – Today, U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton announced the Skills First Act, a bold new initiative designed to deliver debt-free, high-paying career pathways for Massachusetts’ non-college majority.

“Massachusetts families are struggling with the cost of living, and good-paying jobs are at the heart of that challenge,” said Deaton, a Marine Corps veteran and small business owner. “While my opponent has spent 50 years in Washington pushing four-year college for everyone, I believe opportunity shouldn’t require a degree. The Skills First Act creates fast-track, debt-free pathways into the trades and technical careers that Massachusetts employers desperately need.”

The Skills First Act would establish a National Apprenticeship Accelerator Program that partners with unions, businesses, and trade schools to dramatically expand apprenticeship opportunities. The legislation includes:

Targeted tax credits to encourage companies to create new apprenticeship slots

A “Trade School GI Bill” offering low or no-interest loans and grants for tuition, tools, and training

Strong incentives for high schools to offer on-the-job training and apprenticeship programs

Focused pathways for 18- to 30-year-olds to enter high-demand fields including welding, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, heavy equipment operation, clean energy technology, pipefitting, diesel mechanics, robotics, and more — all in just 12 to 18 months.

“College is optional. Opportunity is not,” Deaton added. “Young people should be able to earn strong wages without drowning in student debt. The Skills First Act puts Massachusetts workers first by connecting them to real careers that don’t require a four-year degree.”

Deaton’s proposal is part of his broader “Jobs and Economy” platform and directly contrasts with incumbent Senator Ed Markey’s long record in Washington.

The full proposal is available on Deaton’s campaign website.

           and the American Dream

I grew up in generational poverty. My mother taught me resilience, and I went looking for ways to climb. I joined the Marine Corps. I beat cancer. I worked my way through college and law school, then built a trial practice fighting corporations on behalf of working families. Nobody handed me anything. I earned it through hard work and opportunity.

That path is closing for too many young people in Massachusetts. The median home price here tops $663,000. Young families work hard, live frugally, and save every dollar. And they still can’t clear a six-figure down payment. Skipping coffee and nights eating out doesn’t bridge that gap anymore. We are pricing an entire generation out of the American Dream.

This isn’t just an economic problem. It’s a family problem. How do you start a family, launch a business, or put down roots when housing eats every paycheck? Our most talented young people are leaving for states where they can afford to build a life and taking our economy and our future with them.

The fix starts with supply. Supply and demand is not a partisan theory. Decades of restrictive zoning, red tape, NIMBYism, and regulatory overreach have strangled construction and driven costs through the roof. That’s why I support building five million new homes nationwide over five years by cutting federal and state red tape, reforming outdated zoning, freeing up private builders, and opening federal and state land to new construction.

This isn’t government building houses. It’s government getting out of the way so the free market can build what families need: starter homes, townhouses, and single-family homes people can afford.

But supply alone won’t close the gap fast enough. We should also embrace innovation in how people buy in. Blockchain-based real estate tokenization - splitting property into tradable digital shares - lets families build equity in fractions instead of needing a six-figure check upfront. It’s a tool already gaining traction in other markets, and Massachusetts should welcome it, not regulate it away. Unfortunately, elected officials in Massachusetts see innovation like blockchain technology as the problem and not the solution. They fail to understand that government is the problem.

I lived the American Dream; from poverty to Marine, lawyer, and father. Homeownership gave my family and generation stability. It should still be the cornerstone of opportunity for every Massachusetts family. That means electing leaders who will fight to increase supply, embrace innovation, and restore that opportunity.

Our current leadership has had decades to fix this. They haven’t. It’s time for something different. Nothing changes until we do.

BOSTON - The MA Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that a proposed income tax cut, which was backed by 65% of voters in a recent Boston Globe/Suffolk University poll, will not appear on the November ballot. The reason: Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s office wrote a misleading summary of the measure.

“Two-thirds of MA voters wanted a vote on lowering their taxes. But they now won’t get one - not because the idea failed - but because the people running our state government failed to do their job. That’s what one-party rule looks like: every lever of power held by the same political machine, and ordinary people pay the price.

“This makes my plans to lower energy costs, expand housing, and bring transparency to healthcare pricing more urgent, not less. If Beacon Hill won’t even let voters decide on tax relief, we need every other tool on the table to make life affordable here. Senator Markey has spent 53 years inside this system. I’ve spent my career fighting institutions like it on behalf of working people and that’s exactly the fight MA needs in the Senate.”

Deaton Puts People Over Party in Sharp Senate Debate

BOSTON, MA – In last night’s WBZ pre-primary debate, Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton delivered a clear message: Massachusetts needs a fighter who puts working families and common sense ahead of partisan loyalty and career politicians.

Deaton repeatedly contrasted his independent approach with the partisan politics of his opponents, emphasizing results for the people of Massachusetts over party agendas.

“Notice he didn’t say one major bill that he passed. He talks about proposed legislation. I can propose a lot of things,” Deaton said. “The real hard work is writing laws, and I’m a lawyer; I know how to do it and doing the hard work to get it done.”

He continued: “Let me tell you the difference between Seth Moulton and Markey and John Deaton. They stand before you as Democrats. I stand before you as an American. I don’t have loyalty to a person, a party, or an agenda; just common sense and the Constitution.”

Deaton did not shy away from criticizing both sides of the aisle. “F the Republican Party. F the Democrat Party. They all suck,” he declared. “You need someone like me who will stand up for America and working people. I’ve done it all my life, and I’ll do it in the Senate.”

On Ed Markey’s long tenure, Deaton was direct: “Fifty-three years is enough. He hasn’t shown up, and that’s why he should be fired.”

Throughout the debate, Deaton focused on practical solutions for Massachusetts families struggling with high costs:

Energy: Highlighted Massachusetts electricity rates at 33 cents per kilowatt hour versus 16 cents in Maryland, and proposed small modular nuclear reactors to power 40% of the state’s electricity and save families up to $600 per month.

Immigration: Called for expanding legal immigration while enforcing the law with zero tolerance for illegal immigration and asylum abuse. “We gotta have sensible, common sense solutions. I have them.”

Transparency: Blasted one-party Democratic control in Massachusetts for ignoring a voter-approved audit of the legislature. “They’re so corrupt and so arrogant, they won’t enforce a law that seventy-two percent of us voted for.” Deaton has joined lawsuits demanding compliance.

On foreign spending, Deaton drew a firm line: “I will not vote for another dollar to go to Ukraine, Israel, Iran, or any other foreign nation unless it is proven with verifiable facts that it is in the best interest of America and the people of Massachusetts… My vote’s not for sale.”

Deaton, a Marine veteran, former federal prosecutor, and attorney who has represented working people against powerful interests for decades, positioned himself as the independent voice Massachusetts needs — focused on performance, not partisanship.

“Massachusetts needs someone like me, an independent voice,” Deaton said. “I never wavered.”

           1. "Well, thank you, and thank you to everybody listening. Thank you for doing this. Thanks to the studio and Seth. Shame on Senator Markey for not being here. You asked the question: What has he done? Why isn't he here defending 53 years of being in office? Look, you can see I am not a young man by anyone's standard. His first year in elected office, I was six. Seth wasn't even alive, and he's not here to defend his record because he can't. When you ask him, 'What have you done lately?' You wanna know what Senator Markey talks about? He talks about the internet and computers. Senator, that was thirty years ago. And in Maryland, where you pay sixteen cents for electricity per kilowatt hour because Maryland's not subject to your policies, here in Massachusetts we pay thirty-three cents per kilowatt hour. He hasn't shown up, and that's why he should be fired. I think I'm the right guy to take his place, but that's the reason he needs to go. Fifty-three years is enough."

           2. "Listen, if you look at Seth's argument, it is simply he's younger than Markey. He sees eye to eye on all the policies. That's not change. That's promotion dressed up as generational change. It's about performance, not just age. And Seth, you know, I'm gonna call you Seth out of respect — I don't believe it's okay, Congressman — but he's been in office for twelve years and he can't name one major bill on housing, health care, or energy that has helped improve the lives of working families. Other than 988, a 988 line, or a United States Marine Corps commemorative coin. We got four hundred and fifty years of history. We don't need a coin, we need policies that change the lives of working families. Name one bill. Go ahead."

           3. "I stand before you as an American. I don't have loyalty to a person, a party, or an agenda, just common sense and the Constitution. And Seth, with all due respect, it's all about partisan politics. You talk about the Democrat Party and how you can improve that and the leadership of the Democrat Party. What about America? You guys keep saying, 'When is a Republican gonna stand up to Donald Trump?' I've had three opportunities to vote for him, and I haven't voted once. And when a Republican shows up, like they've been asking for, you know what they say? Don't vote for him. He's a Republican."

4. "Jumping on a bill that someone else proposed and saying it's yours isn't right. When he says, 'Oh, he says this as a Republican, he's gonna get to Washington and vote,' I ran in a Republican primary, not supporting the head of the ticket. Do you know I went to RTC's Republican Town Committees all across the state? I got called all kinds of names. I never wavered. Massachusetts needs someone like me, an independent voice. F the Republican Party. F the Democrat Party. They all suck. You need someone like me who will stand up for America and working people."

           5. "I will not vote for another dollar to go to Ukraine, Israel, Iran, or any other foreign nation unless it is proven with verifiable facts that it is in the best interest of America and the people of Massachusetts. When I get to the Senate, I will stop that. I will never vote for that. My vote's not for sale."

Challenges Longtime Incumbent Markey's 50-Year Tenure
Boston, MA – U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton today unveiled his Washington Clean Hands Act, a comprehensive anti-corruption plan to restore integrity to Congress and end the era of career politicians.
"Washington was never meant to be a career," Deaton said. "My Clean Hands Act starts with cleaning up Congress and will be the first bills I introduce as Senator."
The plan's key reforms include:

Congressional Term Limits — Push for a constitutional amendment limiting service to 3 House terms and 2 Senate terms.

No-Trade Zone — Ban stock, crypto or commodities trading by Members of Congress.

Lifetime Lobbying Ban — Prohibit former Members from ever lobbying.

End Regulatory Capture — Bar high-level agency officials (e.g., FDA, SEC, EPA) from taking board or executive roles at regulated companies for at least 5 years.

Single Issue Bill Act — Require all bills to address one topic only, ending omnibus packages loaded with unrelated pork.

Read the Bill Mandate — Make final bill text public and searchable for at least 72 hours before any vote.

No Pay for No Budget — Withhold congressional pay (non-recoverable) if budgets and appropriations bills aren't passed on time.

Dark Money Transparency — Require 48-hour disclosure of contributions over $500 to Super PACs or politically active non-profits.

Prioritizing Veterans & Firefighters: Mayor Wu’s Choices Demand Accountability

As a United States Marine Corps veteran, I am deeply troubled by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s recent budget decisions. Equally troubling, is the near silence from those elected to speak for this city’s most vulnerable.

Every Veteran, at one time, wrote a blank check to the United States. A check that included the willingness to die for their country. Thus, when veterans get shortchanged, leaders should rise in their defense. Too few have.

I commend Councilors Ed Flynn and Erin Murphy for doing exactly that. I am adding my voice to theirs.

Here are the facts: Mayor Wu has proposed cutting approximately $740,000 from Boston’s veterans’ services budget. A reduction exceeding 14 percent. This comes at a time when veterans are still fighting for housing, mental health care, and access to benefits they bled to earn. Meanwhile, the city’s overall budget continues to expand.

At the same moment these cuts were proposed, Mayor Wu accepted a $43,000 pay raise, bringing her annual salary to $250,000. Public officials deserve fair compensation, but accepting a substantial personal increase while reducing support for veterans isn’t just a budget decision; it is a statement of values. And it is the wrong one.

The pattern doesn’t stop there. City Hall has added hundreds of new positions in recent years, many filled by individuals aligned with the mayor’s political inner circle. We are growing the bureaucracy while cutting services for veterans and eyeing reductions for the men and women of the fire department who run toward danger every day to protect Boston families.

These are not abstractions. They are choices. And choices reveal character. Dishonorable character.

Good government is not complicated. It means fiscal discipline, transparency, and a clear hierarchy of obligation: protect those who served, keep the public safe, and spend taxpayer dollars as if they belong to the people who earned them. Because they do.

I call on Mayor Wu to restore full funding for veterans’ services, exercise genuine restraint on salaries and new hires, and keep Boston’s firefighters fully resourced.

Veterans didn’t negotiate their service. They gave it. The least we can do is honor what we promised them.

As a Marine and as a candidate for U.S. Senate, I will keep speaking out when those who served are treated as an afterthought. Boston and Massachusetts can do better. Our veterans have earned nothing less.

Every election cycle, political observers tell Massachusetts voters that the marquee contest is the one on Beacon Hill. In 2026, that conventional wisdom is dead wrong. The U.S. Senate seat is the most consequential race on the ballot. The man currently holding it doesn’t even live here to feel the consequences.

Let’s start with Ed Markey. While Massachusetts families pay one of the highest electricity rates in the nation, Senator Markey is comfortably paying his electric bill in Chevy Chase, Maryland. That’s not a rumor. It’s a matter of public record. Massachusetts residents pay approximately 31.5 cents per kilowatt-hour. In Chevy Chase, serviced by PEPCO, the residential rate is 13.25 cents per kilowatt-hour. Massachusetts ratepayers pay more than twice what Senator Markey pays. The man who has spent 53 years in elected office crafting the energy mandates driving our bills through the roof isn’t forced to pay them himself. The truth: Ed Markey doesn’t live here. Check his water bill in Malden. The City of Malden charges Markey the legal minimum allowed under the law. That only happens when there isn’t a single water faucet running.

On housing, the contrast is just as vivid. Massachusetts has one of the most unaffordable housing markets in the country, pricing out young families and working-class residents at a pace threatening the state’s future. Senator Markey rests comfortably in one of Maryland’s most affluent suburbs, insulated from the crisis his constituents face every time they renew a lease or apply for a mortgage. He is the author of policies whose costs he will never personally bear.

Now here is why the Senate seat matters more than the conventional favorite on Beacon Hill — and why even a strong victory for change there would face real limits from Day One.

Anyone taking the corner office walks into a Democratic supermajority in both chambers of the state legislature. Vetoes overridden at will. Budgets written without input. An agenda set entirely by the other party. The levers of real power simply aren’t available in that environment.

A U.S. Senate seat operates in an entirely different universe. In Washington, I don’t need a friendly majority on Beacon Hill. I don’t need the Speaker’s permission. I have a vote, a committee seat, and a chair at the appropriations table — where the decisions that actually shape life in Massachusetts get made, regardless of what party controls the State House.

That matters enormously, because federal money is the engine that runs this state. Roughly 40 cents of every dollar in Massachusetts’ annual budget flows from Washington. The person fighting for Massachusetts at that table isn’t just a senator; they are the state’s most powerful financial advocate.

Consider what’s immediately at stake. Massachusetts is in a housing crisis. Federal housing dollars can accelerate construction in ways no Beacon Hill bill can match. I can bring those resources home without asking a supermajority for permission.

Our roads, bridges, and transit infrastructure are crumbling. Federal infrastructure funding is the difference between a state that modernizes and one that declines. I can deliver those dollars.

On energy, Massachusetts ratepayers pay more than twice what residents of Chevy Chase pay because of mandates untethered from grid reality. Nuclear energy — clean, reliable, and increasingly cost-competitive — represents a generational opportunity to lower costs and strengthen our grid. I can champion federal investment in next-generation nuclear from Washington while Ed Markey lectures us about sacrifice from his affordable Maryland home.

On healthcare, Medicaid funding from Washington is the single largest driver of Massachusetts health coverage. Every federal reimbursement negotiation affects hospitals, nursing homes, and patients across this Commonwealth. That fight happens in Washington. Not on Beacon Hill.

Massachusetts needs a senator who actually lives here, feels the bills, and can fight effectively. The most powerful vote a Massachusetts resident can cast in 2026 is for the Senate. I intend to earn it.

“People Over Politics”: Marine Veteran and Business Leader Vows to Take the Fight to Every Corner of Massachusetts

BOSTON, Mass. – Today at the Massachusetts Republican State Convention, John Deaton officially accepted the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. To the booming strains of the Rocky theme and the thunderous welcome of a raucous, standing-room-only crowd, Deaton took the stage as the clear choice to take on career politician Ed Markey in November.

With no primary challenger and a unified party behind him, Deaton is ready to bring the fight to Washington. A Marine veteran, successful businessman, and proud father who rose from humble beginnings, Deaton represents the exact opposite of the Washington status quo. While Ed Markey has been drawing a congressional paycheck for nearly fifty years and is currently locked in yet another bitter fight with fellow career politician Congressman Seth Moulton, John Deaton has spent his life outside the Beltway, serving his country in uniform and building a business that creates jobs for working families.

“This race is about people over politics,” said Deaton. “For half a century, career politicians like Ed Markey have put their own power and their own party ahead of the people they were sent to serve. I didn’t come up through the political machine. I came up through the Marine Corps and the real economy. And because Massachusetts families are tired of the same old insiders fighting the same old fights, the Republican Party is now united behind one mission: sending a fighter to the United States Senate who will actually deliver results.”

Deaton continued: “I have no primary opponent because the Massachusetts Republican Party stands united. They want a senator who will represent every single one of them, not just the political class in Boston and Washington. Whether you’re in Worcester, Springfield, Cape Cod, the North Shore, or the Berkshires, I will take this fight to every corner of Massachusetts. I will listen to your concerns, I will fight for your values, and I will put your interests ahead of party loyalty every single day.”

Deaton’s message is simple and direct: after fifty years of the same career politicians like Ed Markey with their empty resumes and empty promises, Massachusetts deserves a senator who puts people first. A senator who understands what it means to serve. A senator who will show up for every community, every family, and every worker across the Commonwealth.

DEATON: MARKEY’S RECORD ON RACE IS A 50-YEAR POLITICAL CALCULATION — NOT CONVICTION

Markey fought desegregation busing when opposing it was popular in his district. He then championed Rachael Rollins, calling her, “a national leader on racial justice,” when embracing her was popular.

Now Rollins is reportedly running for office again after resigning in disgrace.

The question for every journalist covering this race: Senator Markey, do you endorse her again?

Ed Markey has spent fifty years in public life treating racial justice as a weathervane, not a compass. The record speaks for itself, and it should follow him into every interview, debate, and editorial board meeting between now and November.

When It Was Hard, Markey Said No.

During the Boston busing crisis of the 1970s and 1980s, then-Congressman Markey opposed court-ordered desegregation. He voted against integrating Black children into white classrooms at a moment when real political courage, not political calculation, was demanded. Because it was unpopular, Markey lacked the courage to do what’s right. He eventually dropped his opposition to bussing a decade later - but only after politics shifted.

This matters because busing wasn’t a peripheral policy debate. It was the front line of racial integration in Massachusetts. It was, in every meaningful sense, reparative justice in action, a concrete, court-ordered effort to dismantle a system that had deliberately segregated Black children into inferior schools. Markey fought it.

Today, that same Ed Markey supports reparations. He has co-sponsored legislation calling for a federal commission to study reparations for the descendants of enslaved Americans. He talks about systemic racism, generational harm, and the debt America owes Black communities.

Let that sink in. He opposed the actual integration of Black children into white schools when it was the law of the land and might cost him political discomfort. Now he supports reparations, when it costs him nothing and gains him everything. That is not a moral evolution. That is a man who learned which side of racial justice politics to stand on when the cameras are rolling.

When It Was Easy, Markey Said Yes: Loudly.

In 2021, Markey aggressively backed Rachael Rollins for U.S. Attorney. He called her a “national leader on racial justice and criminal justice reform” and pushed hard for her Senate confirmation. In 2020, he stood next to her at campaign events, gushing that she had “redefined what it means to be a prosecutor” and called it “humbling” to have her beside him.

Then Rachael Rollins resigned as U.S. Attorney in disgrace.

Two separate federal investigations found that Rollins leaked confidential Department of Justice information to sabotage a political opponent’s campaign and lied to investigators about it. Federal watchdogs cited her Hatch Act violations as among the most “egregious” they had ever seen. She was later publicly reprimanded by the Massachusetts state bar.

When she resigned, all Markey could manage was a bloodless joint statement saying he would “respect her decision.” Fifty years in politics and that’s the best he’s got.

Now She’s Back. And Markey Owes Massachusetts an Answer.

Rollins is reportedly preparing to run for Suffolk County District Attorney again. Which means the question Ed Markey has been allowed to avoid is now unavoidable: Do you endorse Rachael Rollins again?

Markey’s record on race isn’t a journey. It’s a transaction. When opposing school integration helped him win votes, he opposed it. When backing a Black progressive helped him win votes, he backed her enthusiastically, publicly, and relentlessly.

He calls himself a champion of racial justice, yet his actual record shows a man who supported racial justice only when it was convenient and abandoned it the moment it required something from him. That’s not a record. That’s a costume.

He didn’t champion Rachael Rollins because of her character. He championed her because of her complexion and what it did for his image. When she delivered ethics violations instead of political cover, he went silent.

Massachusetts deserves a senator whose commitment to equal justice doesn’t depend on a poll. We haven’t had one in fifty years.

I’m calling on every journalist and commentator covering the 2026 Massachusetts Senate race to press Senator Markey with three direct questions:

Does he still endorse Rachael Rollins?

Does he stand by his praise of her record?

And how does he square his support for reparations today with his opposition to court-ordered school desegregation when it actually counted?

He opposed desegregation when it was real. He supports reparations now that it’s rhetorical. The pattern is the point.

Boston, MA - U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton today called on leaders and media to acti with urgency regarding the growing problem of out-migration, and the snowballing effects it has on our Commonwealth as a whole. This urgency is sparked by other states aggressively taking advantage and recruiting our residents with social media campaigns.

"Other states are not waiting for us to act," said Deaton. "They are running aggressive social media ads specifically targeting Massachusetts residents, promising lower taxes, more affordable housing, and a better quality of life. I’ve seen the screenshots, the campaigns are relentless and clearly effective."

U.S. Census Bureau data show a net domestic out-migration of 33,340 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, placing Massachusetts among the top five states for people leaving. Over the past five years, the Commonwealth has lost a net 182,000 residents to other states.

According to 2023 IRS migration data, Massachusetts suffered a net loss of $4.2 billion in adjusted gross income as residents left for lower-tax states, a 467% increase over the past decade. In that single year, $2.75 billion flowed out to Florida and New Hampshire alone. Since 2020, cumulative net AGI losses exceed $14.8 billion.

Other recent news reports confirm a troubling reality for Massachusetts families. Massachusetts is losing tens of thousands of residents and billions in wealth, while other states actively recruit our most productive citizens through targeted social media advertising campaigns.

Deaton continued, "These departures hit hardest among working-age adults, young professionals, and higher earners; the very people who drive our economy, innovation, and tax base. This exodus is the predictable result of high taxes, one party rule, excessive regulation, and policies that punish success while making life unaffordable for working families."

He concluded. "As a candidate for the United States Senate, I am committed to reversing this trend. Massachusetts must cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden on families and job creators, and restore the economic freedom that once made our state a destination, not a departure point."

Deaton Calls for Immediate Suspension of Federal and Massachusetts Gas Taxes

BOSTON, MA — Today, John Deaton, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate called on Congress and state leaders to suspend both the federal and Massachusetts state gas taxes to provide relief to families and businesses facing high fuel prices.

With gas prices climbing toward four dollars per gallon and higher in many parts of Massachusetts, alongside an overall cost of living that is 48% higher than the national average—driven by housing costs 110% above the national average and utilities 26% higher—families are struggling to afford basic necessities,” said Deaton. “Washington and Beacon Hill must stop burdening taxpayers and deliver immediate relief.

The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon on gasoline, while Massachusetts charges 24 cents per gallon. These taxes add significant costs for drivers already dealing with inflation and rising energy prices.

Deaton urged swift action at both levels:

Immediate suspension of the federal 18.4-cent gasoline tax for at least six months.

Suspension of Massachusetts’ 24-cent-per-gallon gas tax for the same period.

“Massachusetts families should not pay more at the pump because of failed policies and unrealistic green mandates,” Deaton said. “Suspending these taxes is a simple and direct way to put money back in drivers’ pockets right now.”

Deaton stressed that this relief must not harm critical infrastructure funding. He supports responsible reforms to ensure long-term energy affordability through American production and innovation.

“Career politicians have pushed agendas that make life more expensive for Massachusetts families,” Deaton added. “It is time for practical leadership that puts people first.”

Deaton is calling on Massachusetts’ congressional delegation and the Governor to support these tax suspensions without delay.

The King of Hypocrisy: 49-Year Congressman Ed Markey Attends “No Kings” Rally

Boston, MA – John Deaton, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, today called out Senator Ed Markey for attending a “No Kings” rally after spending nearly half a century in Congress.

“Ed Markey has been in Congress for almost 50 years, that is half a century, longer than most kings or monarchs ever hold power,” Deaton noted. “Ed Markey has been in Washington a decade longer than the average Bay Stater has been alive.”

“If you want to talk about unchecked, unaccountable power, Ed Markey is a pretty good place to start. He’s been in Congress for 49 years. That isn't public service; it’s a reign,” said John Deaton. “It is the height of hypocrisy to stand under a 'No Kings' banner when you have held onto power longer than most actual monarchs.”

Deaton highlighted the disconnect between the rally’s message and the actions of the state’s leadership:

           • The Audit:

Markey stood alongside an Attorney General actively fighting a legislative audit approved by 72% of voters. “Markey stood next to an Attorney General who is fighting a legislative audit approved by 72% of voters, holding signs that say ‘No Kings.’ That is not activism. That is the establishment protecting itself.”

           • The Fraud:

The administration continues to ignore systemic SNAP and Medicare fraud. Deaton also called out Governor Healey: “Add in a Governor who has looked the other way on massive SNAP and Medicaid fraud, and you have a clean sweep of hypocrisy in one afternoon.”

           • The Monopoly:

One party controls 88% of the legislature and every statewide office. “When one party controls 88% of the state legislature, every statewide office, every congressional seat, and both Senate seats, the system doesn’t just lean, it locks,” Deaton said.

“When one party holds every lever of power, they stop listening to the people,” Deaton concluded. “When voters demand an audit and the 'royalty' in power ignores them, the system is broken. Families pay the price in higher costs and fewer opportunities. Massachusetts deserves better than a political class that protests kings while acting like one. It’s time for Massachusetts to move back to the middle.”

The great irony of this Massachusetts U.S. Senate race is currently sitting on my roof in Bolton.

I am the Republican nominee running against Senator Ed Markey, the co-author of the Green New Deal. Yet, if you look at our homes, only one of us is actually generating clean energy for our family every day.

           It’s me.

I have solar panels on my house and I drive a Tesla Model Y. I didn’t do it because a government mandate forced my hand; I did it because the technology is superior and the choice made sense for my family. But while I “walk the walk” at home, my opponent - who has spent decades in Washington demanding aggressive climate mandates for everyone else - has no solar panels on his primary residence in Chevy Chase, Maryland or on the house he owns in Malden.

This isn't just about a lack of leading by example. It’s about a fundamental disconnect between a career politician’s rhetoric and the "crushing costs" his policies impose on the rest of us.

The Hochul Concession: A Reality Check

The "Net Zero" fantasy is hitting a wall of economic reality, and we don't have to look far to see it. Just days ago, New York Governor Kathy Hochul - one of the nation's loudest proponents of green mandates - finally conceded that her state’s climate law is "not a sustainable path."

Facing utility hikes that could reach 46% for some residents, Governor Hochul is now calling for a "reality check," admitting that the arbitrary deadlines and rigid mandates she championed are making life unaffordable for working families.

It is time for Senator Ed Markey and Governor Maura Healey to have the same "come to Jesus" moment. For too long, they have treated Massachusetts like a laboratory for a radical political agenda, ignoring the fact that our residents pay some of the highest electricity rates in the nation - roughly 68% higher than the national average.

Massachusetts is responsible for a tiny fraction of global emissions - less than two days’ worth of China’s output. Yet, Markey and Healey are content to punish our local businesses and taxpayers with "Net Zero" mandates that drive up the cost of everything from home heating to groceries.

When you artificially restrict natural gas and force electrification before the grid is ready, you aren't "saving the planet" - you are bankrupting the single mother in Worcester and the senior citizen in Quincy who has to choose between medicine and heat.

Senator Markey’s Green New Deal is a top-down federal overhaul that prioritizes recycled rhetoric over reliability. My plan is different. It is a pragmatic, "all-of-the-above" strategy focused on lowering your bills:

           • Advanced Nuclear: I will fight to bring four 300MW Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to the Commonwealth. These can power 40% of Massachusetts homes with zero-carbon energy at a 97% capacity factor - reliability that wind and solar simply cannot match.

           • Natural Gas Bridge: We must stop the war on natural gas and treat it as the reliable bridge it is to ensure our grid doesn't collapse during a New England winter.

           • Innovation, Not Mandates: We should expand solar and EVs where they make economic sense, not through forced mandates that prioritize ideology over affordability.

           A Choice Between Two Paths

Senator Markey has lost touch with the working families of this state. He is more interested in being the face of a movement in Washington than in the price of a utility bill in Malden.

If a progressive Governor like Kathy Hochul can admit that these mandates are crushing her constituents, why can’t Ed Markey? Why can’t Maura Healey?

Massachusetts deserves a leader who aligns his actions with his words and prioritizes the survival of the middle class over the approval of radical activists.

I’ve made the choice to go green in my own life because I believe in the technology. As your Senator, I will fight for your right to choose energy that is affordable, reliable, and realistic.

The era of recycled rhetoric is over. It’s time elected leaders in Massachusetts acknowledge the same reality check happening in New York.

Boston, MA – As the partial federal government shutdown continues to leave thousands of workers without pay, John Deaton questions Senator Ed Markey who continues to collect a full taxpayer-funded salary.

Deaton stated, "Air traffic controllers and TSA are doing double shifts without pay because the government is shut down again." Deaton continued, "These are regular hardworking Americans doing critical jobs to keep our country moving. They shouldn’t have to suffer because career politicians can’t get their act together."

As a United States Marine who served my country, I condemn Senator Edward Markey's selective outrage over presidential military actions and his blatant disregard for consistently applying constitutional principles for the good of our nation, not just his political party.

This position might carry some credibility if it were applied uniformly, no matter who's in the White House. But Senator Markey's record spanning nearly 50 years in Congress, from his start in the House back in 1976 to his time in the Senate since 2013, reveals he is a massive hypocrite, laser-focused on party politics with zero concern for our men and women in uniform or the American people he claims to serve.

Take President Obama's 2011 Libya intervention, the most egregious War Powers violation in modern history, dragging on for 210 days without a shred of congressional authorization. U.S. forces were dropping bombs and launching missile strikes, yet Obama claimed we weren't engaged in "hostilities."

Where was Markey's righteous indignation then? Silent as a stone. And that's no isolated incident.

Over his decades in office, Markey has never once called out his own party's presidents for overstepping, from unauthorized drone strikes to other military escapades that put our troops at risk without proper oversight. It's always crickets when it's a Democrat in charge.

This isn't about red jerseys or blue jerseys. It's about people over politics. Governing should be about the folks who elected you, not politicians who blindly cheering for your team while. Massachusetts deserves better than a lifelong politician who plays favorites with our nation's security.

The right Republican can win the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race by exploiting a rare convergence of structural and candidate specific vulnerabilities: Ed Markey turns age 80 in July and has already drawn intraparty chatter about his 50-year tenure in DC, showing softness rather than dominance. Meanwhile, GOP Senate nominees have held the Republican

Former GOP Governor Charlie Baker still maintains a 58% favorability (27% unfav). In contrast, Senator Ed Markey’s image is net 20-points more negative (47 fav, 36 unfav). Only 40% of voters initially say they are definitely voting for Markey against John Deaton.

After voters are exposed to Deaton’s biography – both good and bad – his unique issue platform, and Markey’s failures, the U.S. Senate race moves from 30 – 54 (D+24) to 40 – 45 (D+5) with 15% undecided. Importantly, these undecided voters are frustrated with the status quo and would be more likely to vote for Deaton out of protest than support the incumbent.

Non-college voters moved strongly to Deaton on the informed ballot. What’s more surprising is that the largest group that abandoned Markey and embraced Deaton are women, including college-educated women. In all my years of polling, I’ve not experienced a shift of this demographic toward a Republican, which shows something unique about Deaton.

With Markey and Seth Moulton engaged in a heated Democratic primary, Deaton has a head start opportunity to introduce himself to voters, particularly with his Poverty to Marines story. He also must talk about key portions of his policy platform, including health insurance, affordability,

Boston, MA – John Deaton is leading a group of Massachusetts taxpayers in filing a lawsuit under M.G.L. c. 29, § 63 to prevent the unlawful expenditure of public funds by the Massachusetts Legislature. The action seeks to compel the Legislature to comply with the 2024 voter-approved mandate, passed by 72% of voters, granting the State Auditor authority to audit legislative operations.

The lawsuit was jointly filed by John Deaton, himself, a Massachusetts lawyer, and by independent counsel, Michael Walsh. The Plaintiffs are committed to seeing the process through to restore accountability. This effort, led by John Deaton, underscores a simple principle: Government works for the people, and the people's will must be honored without hurting the families who need help the most. This non-partisan initiative focuses solely on enforcing the 2024 ballot mandate for legislative audits while protecting essential support for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable residents.

Bolton, MA — Today, veteran, attorney and reform-champion John Deaton formally announced that he is injecting $1 million of his own personal funds into his campaign to become United States Senator from Massachusetts, signalling his readiness to lead and win for the Commonwealth’s Republicans.

“Massachusetts working families deserve bold, independent leadership that doesn’t wait for permission,” Deaton said. “I’m stepping up — and I’m putting my own skin in the game. This state, this nation, can’t afford business-as-usual Washington. I’m all-in.”

With this self-investment, Deaton brings immediate momentum and organizational strength to his campaign. This significant personal financial commitment underscores several key attributes of Deaton’s campaign:

Confidence in Victory: Deaton’s personal investment sends a clear signal that he believes he can win the general election, not just compete.

Independence: By putting his own money in, he underscores his promise to stand up to special interests and not be beholden to big‐donors or Washington insiders.

Momentum: The infusion of early capital will help accelerate digital advertising, grassroots outreach, and building a statewide ground game — giving Deaton a strategic advantage as the race takes shape.

“Serving in the Marines taught me that leadership means showing up and doing the hard work. Building a law-practice taught me you fight for the underdog and you don’t back down. Now I’m ready to bring that same energy to the U.S. Senate,” Deaton said.

It’s take two for John Deaton.

After the Republican candidate tried to unseat U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren last year, Deaton now has his sights on

Deaton, 58, officially launched his 2026 campaign on Monday evening in Worcester — becoming the first Republican to announce a Senate run for next year.

Congressman Seth Moulton is challenging Markey

            in the primary.

Deaton — a Marine veteran, attorney, and small business owner — focused on affordability and targeting “career politicians” in his launch video on the eve of Veterans Day.

“Our Commonwealth is headed down the wrong path,” Deaton says in the video. “Families here are struggling as home prices, energy costs and grocery bills continue to rise.

“Our leaders should be doing their jobs to help Massachusetts families, but they’re all career politicians and they’re failing,” he adds, showing clips of Markey, Warren and Moulton.

In Moulton’s recent campaign launch, the congressman emphasized Markey’s age and long time in Congress. Markey will be 80 years old next year.

Deaton also went after Markey for his nearly 50 years in office.

“Ed Markey is MIA, rarely seen here, and rarely delivering results in Washington, a place he’s called home since the 70s,” Deaton says. “Massachusetts can do better.”

Deaton’s website says he would fight for term limits in Congress.

Last year, he cruised in the Republican Senate primary. He received more than 64% of the vote, compared to Robert Antonellis receiving about 26% and Ian Cain’s 9%.

Then in the 2024 general election, Warren handily defeated Deaton — nearly 60% for Warren compared to 40% for Deaton.

In his launch video, Deaton said he “started with nothing, a broken home, battling poverty and violence, living on food stamps.”

Then after the Marines, he earned a degree and “built a business from the ground up with grit, determination and hard work.”

“Our leaders should reflect us,” he added. “They should face down challenges with the same grit, overcome obstacles with our same determination. Most of all, be an independent voice for Massachusetts.”

The campaign launch video ends with him playing with his daughter at a playground.

JOHN DEATON ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR U.S. SENATE IN MASSACHUSETTS

Worcester, MA — Marine veteran, attorney, and small business owner John Deaton announced today that he is running for the United States Senate in Massachusetts.

Deaton’s campaign will focus on restoring accountability in Washington, addressing the affordability crisis, and standing up for working families across the Commonwealth.

“I’ve lived the challenges many Massachusetts families face,” Deaton said. “I grew up with nothing, worked my way through the Marines, earned my degree, and built a business from the ground up. I know what it means to fight through obstacles and get results. That is what’s missing in Washington, and that is why I’m running.”

Deaton contrasted his record of service and results with Senator Ed Markey’s long tenure in Washington. “Ed Markey has been in office for nearly fifty years, and Massachusetts families are still struggling with rising costs, failing infrastructure, and a government that feels out of touch,” Deaton said. “We can do better.”

The campaign launched today with a message centered on grit, determination, and the belief that Massachusetts deserves leaders who reflect the people they represent, not career politicians.
